This country sausage gravy is so comforting and easy to make from scratch!
1 pound ground country sausage
2 tablespoons bacon grease or butter (optional, if your sausage is lean)
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
2 cups whole milk, or more to taste
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
Cook meat in a skillet over medium heat until browned and starting to get crispy (about 15 minutes). Break up the meat and scrape the bottom with the Old Country Kitchenware Spatula. Remove meat and leave any drippings in the pan. If your meat is lean, add 1-2 tablespoons grease or butter to the pan and let melt. Add flour to drippings, stir constantly over medium heat until slightly brown. Add 1/2 cup milk and scrape the bottom and stir. Keep adding more milk gradually, stirring and scraping all the while, until gravy begins to thicken, about 5 minutes. Add back sausage. Thin with additional milk, if desired. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
